Zuccardi Concreto Malbec 2016

Zuccardi Concreto Malbec 2016 exceptional - expect big scores...95+ pts Wine Advocate

Tasting Notes

The Zuccardi Concreto Malbec has to be one of the best expressions of varietal definition and purity as well as terroir you will ever find. Elevated in concrete vats, this saw no oak, showing 100% Malbec fruit in its most raw, unadulterated form. A floral top note reminding of violets, then underbrush, garrique, shrub and sweet earth flow into dark red fruit notes of raspberry and blackberry aromatically. Medium fuller bodied the fruit is vibrant with black raspberry flavors lifted with some savory earth and herbal notes on the finish. Sleek, vibrant and juicy, the tannins are powdery and fruit based, while the finish has noted length with a dry and persistently long conclusion. This has tremendous sense of place and speaks of terroir like few wines you will ever try. Another impressive offering that will get big scores down the lineā€¦.

95+ pts Wine Advocate Issue #237 June 2018
A little closed and in need of air, the 2016 Concreto Malbec was produced from an unusual, cool and rainy year and is a very particular and austere expression of Malbec from Altamira. It's simply unbelievable how nuanced and insinuating this wine is, with austerity but unfurling layers and layers as the wine sits in the glass, with tons of aromatic herbs reminiscent of the landscape and the smell of the countryside where the plants grow. It has a linear and symmetrical palate with precision and purity. This is worth more than it costs! This has to be the best Concreto to date. Some 13,000 bottles were produced from this short vintage. Unfortunately, this time the high quality doesn't come with a high quantity.

Winemaker Notes

100% Malbec from a small parcel of very shallow calcerous-drive soils. The wine is fermented and aged in unlined concrete vats, mostly eggs. 50% of the wine is fermented with whole clusters. The resulting wine has a deep red color with violet hues. It expresses a great herbal character with notes of red fruits, strawberry, cherry and plum, which are complemented by distinctive mineral notes. In the mouth is prolonged and deep. A wine of great structure and complexity.
