Xanadu

Xanadu Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Xanadu Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 serious wine for the money

Tasting Notes

2/17/18
The nose is an amalgam of assorted dark fruits, blackberry, plum and cassis with some classic Margaret River bay leaf and sage notes along with some cedar spice adding nuance and complexity to the wine’s aromatic profile. Medium fuller bodied, this has a core of beautiful dark fruit flavors that mimic the nose that are juicy with a savory cast to them. The tannins are finer tuned and starting to really mesh with the deep and layered fruit in the mid palate, leading to a lengthy, dry conclusion. This wine is captivating for the depth of its fruit and lingering persistence. This is perfectly balanced and should show well for at least another 10 plus years quite easily. In respect to its pricing there aren’t that many Cabernets that we try that are this good at this price. Buy it by the case and work it over the next decade.

Awards, Reviews and other Notes

96 pts James Halliday 2016
Small batch open-fermented, 35% given extended maceration, blended and matured in French oak (40% new barriques) for 14 months. Xanadu paints an unerring landscape of intense, elegant Margaret River Cabernet, with a stream of cassis fruit bordered by gravelly but fine tannins, oak insistently completing the picture. Great value.
93 pts James Suckling March 2016
A concentrated darker fruited and dark green leafy and herb nuanced style that has power and plenty of tannin depth, long and rich. Mulberry and plum, supple and even. Great balance here.

Inky ruby. Potent, mineral-accented boysenberry, cherry liqueur, vanilla, mint and potpourri aromas are complicated by a suave Indian spice nuance that builds steadily with air. Seamless, round and alluringly sweet, offering palate-staining black and blue fruit liqueur and floral pastille flavors and hints of mocha and black cardamom. Finishes sappy and extremely long, displaying round, even tannins and a late, lingering touch of candied flowers.
93 pts Wine Enthusiast 'Editors' Choice' Feb 2017
This paints a true picture of Margaret River in its sage and bay leaf shadings and concentrated cassis fruit. It's all framed by hints of vanilla and toasty oak, but the emphasis remains on dried herbs and fruit through the long, mouthwatering finish. Drink now–2030.

Winemaker Notes

COLOUR:
Deep red with ruby hues.

NOSE:
The wine exhibits vibrant, characteristic aromas of cassis, mulberries, and black plums entwined with hints of bay leaf and mocha.

The generous palate is full bodied and packed full of inky forest fruits, layered with blackcurrant pastilles and dark chocolate characters. The combination of the dense fruit characters and supple tannins linger through to a persistent Cabernet finish.
