Wapisa Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Wapisa Sauvignon Blanc 2018 92 pts James Suckling - Very serious.

Tasting Notes

Aromatically not as assertive as most Sauvignon Blanc this carries notions of white flowers along with apple and citrus and riper tropicals. Medium fuller bodied this displays lovely fruit weight with flavors of apple, lemon/lime and guava kissed with a touch of ginger with an under current of acidity leading to a juicy and lingering finish. Lot’s of wine for the money, this represents exceptional value.

Food Accompaniments

Seafood, shell fish, chicken in a light white cream sauce

92 pts James Suckling March 2019
Shows apple and lemon character with hints of dried peaches. Full-bodied and flavorful. Very serious. Drink now.

Winemaker Notes

"Wapisa" is the indigenous Patagonian word for "whale." Not only do whales frequent the nearby coast of our vineyards, but a local legend talks of a wapisa that actually lived on land. Our wines, like the wapisa, are an expression not just of their soils but of the nearby ocean as well. From the Ortiz family.
Located in San Javier, Rio Negro, Patagonia, Argentina, Wapisa is just 25 miles from the Atlantic ocean. Wapisa is the only winery that exists in this unique coastal terroir. Our vineyard "Finca Los Acantilados" is an estate that stands out for its lime clay soils, good acidity and little organic matter. This is complemented by outstanding thermal amplitude as maritime breezes push in for the night, leading to balanced and fruity wines with a delicate varietal expression. As Master of Wine Tim Atkin stated, this is "the new Argentina."
