Vinedo de los Vientos

Vinedo de los Vientos Estival 2013

Vinedo de los Vientos Estival 2013 South America's most interesting white wine?

Tasting Notes

09/30/2016 - The 2013 Estival is an exotic blend of Gewürztraminer (60%), Chardonnay (30%) and Moscato Bianco (10%), respectively. The blend in its own right is unique but what makes the wine is the way grapes were harvested. The Chardonnay is picked very early, coming in at around 11% alcohol to take advantage of its piecing acidity, almost like a base wine for a sparkler, the Gewürztraminer picked at full ripeness, while the Moscato is allowed to ripen to an almost raisin stage. The grapes are all co-fermented together, no wood is used. The end result is wine with a lovely floral lift of lychee and white orchard fruits aromatically with an engaging textural feel countered with an underlying vein of acidity that gives length and drive. This is something that you want to come back for a second glass. It’s delicious and vibrant with a beautiful, lightly creamy texture leading to a clean, lingering finish, everything in balance.

Awards, Reviews and other Notes

92 pts Descorchados - Patricio Tapia
This year one of my favorite wines from the Southern cone is crazier than ever, with notes of liqueur-like white fruits, as lush as oil, but as fresh as lemonade.

Winemaker Notes

Its silky white tones are accentuated by tart passion fruit wrapped in pineapple skins.
The floral notes continue to flourish with zucchini flowers sauteed in citrus oils, amplified with an almond cream finish that matures in one taste.
