Tyrrell's Hunter Valley Shiraz 2014 - 1 Bottle Left

Tyrrell's Hunter Valley Shiraz 2014 showcasing the merits of an exceptional vintage

Tasting Notes

1/19/18
This exhibits beautiful fruit expression in the red fruit spectrum nuanced with a touch of savoriness, suggesting of cracked pepper on the nose. Supple textured, on a medium bodied frame, there is a core of vibrant cherry, red plum and red currant flavors, while the tannins, lighter and as integrated as they are, give just the right amount of firmness on the back end to really focus things on the smooth, lengthy finish. This screams for food and should show well over the next 5 years.

Awards, Reviews and other Notes

91 pts Wine Advocate Issue #234 Dec 2017
While this sample of the 2014 Shiraz wasn't as fresh and floral as I remember the last one being, on the palate it's still loaded with cherry-berry fruit and a hint of cracked pepper. The medium-bodied palate is bolstered by supple, fine-grained tannins and balanced acidity extends through the long, silky finish.
92 pts Wine Enthusiast Dec 2016
The Tyrrell family was excited about its 2014s when I visited there earlier this year, and this suggests their ebullience is well founded. The aromas are fresh and floral, loaded with cherry-berry fruit and a hint of cracked pepper, while on the palate, the wine is medium bodied and supple, with a long, peppery, silky finish.

Winemaker Notes

Sourced from a small selection of our favourite Shiraz blocks, the grapes were both hand and machine picked before fermentation in the traditional open top vats. The wine was then matured in older, large format French oak casks. These 2,700 litre casks highlight the fruit purity whilst making sure that oak isn’t the dominant character.
The nose displays youthful bright red fruits, which continues onto the palate. The palate is abundant with red fruits with a wonderful integration with the soft savoury tannins and the acid creating a well balanced, food friendly medium bodied Shiraz.
