Made with 85% McLaren Vale fruit and a bit of Cabernet Sauvignon, the deep garnet-purple colored 2014 Border Crossing McLaren Vale Shiraz is scented of warm black berries, black plums and chocolate box with hints of vanilla. Big, rich and full-bodied, it has loads of velvety fruit and finishes long and spicy.

Inky ruby. Mineral- and smoke-accented dark berries on the nose, lifted by a spicy touch of cracked pepper. Bitter cherry and black currant flavors reveal an undertone of smoky minerality that adds lift and cut. Picks up a sweet mocha quality on the round, clinging finish, which is framed by supple tannins. -- Josh Raynolds

Winemaker Notes

G'Day Mates, with "The Ball Buster" and "The Wild Ride" under my best, I thought it was time for a new direction. I love the big lush texture of my Barossa wines, however, I'd heard so much about the Shiraz in McLaren Vale that I thought I'd go check it out.

After many border crossings, I found this block of old vine Shiraz that produces a wine that is big, lush and juicy - just like back home - but with the blueberry and mocha characteristics that set it apart from the black plum and licorice we get in Barossa reds. I've been back and forth to McLaren Vale so many times now that naming this wine was really easy!
