Tahbilk 'Museum Release' Marsanne 2009

Tahbilk 'Museum Release' Marsanne 2009 bottle aged but still lots of life in front of it. Drink now to 2020...

Tasting Notes

A nice yellow sheen to the wine’s color lets you know it has some age to it, but it still has good luster and brightness. The nose is quite engaging; mixing a floral, honeysuckle component, some lees and honey edged lemon/citrus fruit notes. The palate is medium bodied, with good viscosity that gives nice textural roundness to the lemon citrus fruit flavors, while highlighting acidity gives this brightness and maintains vibrancy, driving this to a lengthy conclusion. This is an intriguing wine for those who want something out of the mainstream that is more than fairly priced and delivers a unique flavor profile. This should drink beautifully over the next 5 years.

Food Accompaniments

Chicken, seafood, or shell fish in a light, white cream sauce. Grilled fish with lemon capers

The 2009 “Museum Release” Marsanne gives wonderfully mature notes of baked apples, lemon tart, toasted almonds and tatami mats with hint of chalk dust. Light-bodied, it fills the palate with almond and toast laced preserved citrus notes, finishing with very good persistence.

Museum? I don't think so. This is still an adolescent, with years to travel before it reaches full maturity, let alone retirement to an old wines' home. On the one hand, there is vibrant citrussy acidity, on the other a distinct edge of honeyed flavour build-up. That said, there are lots of reasons to enjoy it right now. 2017-2020
