Awards, Reviews and other Notes

95 pts Tim Atkin
Remarkably consistent from vintage to vintage, Three Pines is always among the best Cabernets in the Cape, showing the deep colour, structure and intensity of the cooler, wetter Jonkershoek Valley. This is a stony, focused red with tannic support from 5% Petit Verdot and texture from 2% Merlot. A wine that ages well. Drink: 2017-25
92 pts Wine Spectator 5/31/17
Ripe and layered, with a core of warmed plum sauce, fig paste and blackberry preserves riding over the grippy structure. Graphite and tobacco details fuel the muscular finish. Rock-solid. Best from 2018 through 2024. 200 cases imported.

Winemaker Notes

This is the 15th vintage of this single-vineyard wine and I believe it is one of our finest to date. 2014 threw us some challenges, not least of which was a very small window for picking. We ended up picking our best blocks of cabernet on a Sunday morning in order to avoid rain. This displays the violet/cassis/black cherry notes this vineyard is known coupled with the fine elegant tannins for which the Jonkershoek Valley is known.
