Spice Route Chenin Blanc 2014

Tasting Notes

August 2016 - The 2014 Spice Route Chenin Blanc shows why Chenin Blanc is so well suited for South Africa. Sourced from bush vine fruit and fermented in older, neutral French oak barrels, the nose has a touch of honeyed richness to the notes of ripe pear, white peach and apple aromatically. Medium fuller bodied, the older French oak gives this a round, supple, almost silky textural feel to the riper pear and baked apple flavors without excessive toast or vanillin overtures letting the fruit shine through. A nice under current of acidity adds vibrancy which counters the wine’s richness giving length to the finish, with a touch of honeyed sweetness pushing through on the backend. This has engaging fruit intensity and texture which makes it perfect for richer foods. Showing well as we speak this should be enjoyed over the next couple of years to maximize its freshness and vibrant fruit.
