Succulent cherry and blackberry flavors are tightly stitched, followed by a mouthwatering anise note on the finish. Not big, but this has a purity and freshness atypical of most Pinotages. Drink now.

The 2012 Pinotage is raised in 40% new oak plus first- and second-fill wood for 12 months. It has a clean and fresh bouquet with mulberry, raspberry and a touch of cassis developing in the glass, all with fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins: quite succulent in the mouth but with very good acidity and plenty of freshness and tension on the finish. This is one of South Africa’s finest Pinotage (until you get to the succeeding vintage.)
