Simonsig Cabernet Shiraz 2017

Simonsig Cabernet Shiraz 2017 serious wine for the money

Tasting Notes

A blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Shiraz, with a smattering of Tinta Barocca, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, this is a terrific expression of a composite blend. The Cabernet’s black currant fruit has a lightly herbal dusting while the Shiraz component brings red berry and spice with notions of white pepper and a hint of cardamom to the wine’s aromatic profile. Offering good fruit weight and depth with sweet dark red fruit flavors of cherry and plum on its medium fuller bodied frame, this has good mid palate suppleness while possessing riper tannins that gives enough firmness on the back end to bring this dry conclusion with good length. This is one of those hard to beat values that drinks way above its modest price point and should drink impressively over the next 2-3 years.

Food Accompaniments

lamb chops, beef

Winemaker Notes

This wine displays a dark ruby red with a youthful rim. Vibrant notes of fresh black berries and cherries. The youthful yet integrated tannins express the berry flavours with hints of white pepper and cloves on the palate. Subtle oak notes lingers on the aftertaste.
