Rudy Schultz has reined back the oak in his reds in 2017 to good effect, in my view. This is still quite ripe, but not jammy in the slightest, showing freshness, a twist of black pepper and bramble, plum and black cherry fruit. The 10% new wood is very well integrated. 2020-2015.

The 2017 Pepper Street Solid Syrah has a dense and compact expression that unfolds with aromas of blackberry essence, dusty plum skin, savory black pepper and aromas of Provence herbs. Medium to full-bodied, the wine has a focused expression and tight tannins that linger toward the mid-palate, then reveals black fruits and spice notes that carry through to the long, thoughtful finish. This is a lovely wine.
