Santa Julia Reserva Malbec 2016

Santa Julia Reserva Malbec 2016 great pricing & noteworthy scores makes this an exceptional value

Tasting Notes

When you find a wine at under $10 with this kind of pedigree you take note. We were a bit skeptical at first after doing some research and seeing the glowing reviews. But upon trying the wine and working it over a number of hours, we realized that this is an exceptional value. This is all about vibrancy and freshness, something that fails many a Mlabec at this price point. Precise red fruits, a floral component and light herbal dusting aromatically, this has exceptional fruit purity and surprising depth and mouth feel with juicy, almost crunchy freshness to the red cherry and red currant fruit flavors.

Same as the Chardonnay, the grapes for the 2016 Malbec Reserva are also sourced from the Valle de Uco. It fermented in stainless steel and cement vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in a combination of stainless steel and barriques. The nose is clean and pure, with only 13% alcohol; they are harvesting earlier, with a soft vinification to keep the fruit profile and the freshness. It talks about the light from the Valle de Uco, pure and clean, with a beautiful nose with some floral aromas and some notes of aromatic herbs, and a vibrant palate (2016 was a cool vintage), juicy and very gulpable. You can serve it at 15 degrees Celsius with light foods. A Malbec of thirst. 500,000 bottles produce.

Tight and refreshing, this is filled with violets and black cherry notes. The texture is light as the acidity underlines all its crunchy flavours. This is definitely a summery kind of drink-one to chill down.

Winemaker Notes

Dark violet with blue hues. Nose of ripe red and black fruits such as cherries, plums, and blackberries. Notes of vanilla, chocolate, and snuff. Medium-bodied flavor, with soft tannins and balanced acidity with a fruity and spicy finish.
