Raka Quinary 2014

Raka Quinary 2014 4 Stars 2018 Platter’s South African Wine Guide

Tasting Notes

Jan 2019 - The 2014 Raka is a blend of the five Bordeaux varietals with Cabernet Sauvignon (41%) and Merlot (35%) leading the way, with Cabernet Franc (12%), Petit Verdot (7%) and Malbec at 5% filling out the blend. A deep, dark plum in color, the nose offers notions of sweet oak spice, some leafy, earthiness and dark cherries and black currant fruit to the wine’s aromatics. Medium fuller bodied, this has a pleasing suppleness to the mid palate with black currant and cherry flavors backed with very fine grained, softer tannins, leading to a smooth finish with good length. As this opens a spice and earthy component kicks in adding a savory touch on the back end. This has a juicy component to the fruit while the finish is dry and lingering. Drinking nicely as we speak, this has three more years of pleasurable drinking in front of it.

Awards, Reviews and other Notes

4 Stars 2018 Platter’s South African Wine Guide
Reliably competent 5-way Bordeaux blend, 14 again ticks all the boxes. Well-defined & expressed, with convincing cassis, leafy liquorice & forest floor earthiness.
Double Gold Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards 2017

Winemaker Notes

41% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 7% Petit Verdot, 5% Malbec>br> Intense deep red colour with blackcurrant and cherry on the nose. The palate is well structured and pure with soft tannins and a lingering fruity aftertaste.
