Puramun

Puramun Reserva Chardonnay 2016

Puramun Reserva Chardonnay 2016 serious wine & an incredible value

Tasting Notes

4/10/18
This reminds of a well made white Burgundy and if was from Burgundy would cost a great deal more than its modest price. The nose starts of with some lees, spicy oak and a light hazelnut note to the stone fruit/peach, apple and citrus tones aromatically. The palate is medium fuller bodied with good fruit intensity and depth of flavor to the white stone fruit and citrus edged fruit that take on a slightly creamy textural quality with aeration, while high lightening acidity gives this vibrancy and drives this to an impressively long and lingering finish. This represents outstanding value and should drink impressively over the next two to three years quite easily. For those folks out there who can’t afford white Burgundy this is an opportunity to try something that matches that flavor and structural profile perfectly, on the cheap.

Awards, Reviews and other Notes

91 pts Vinous/Stephen Tanzer July 2017
Bright, light yellow. Deep, sexy scents of stone fruits, oatmeal, flowers and spices, plus hints of honey and orange peel; very complex and Burgundian. Plush, dense, concentrated and slightly glyceral, with the ripe stone fruit flavors supported by chalky energy and grip. Delivers terrific flavor intensity and saline depth for Argentine Chardonnay and finishes with excellent rising length.
92 pts James Suckling June 2017
Cooked-apple and lemon-rind aromas follow through to a full body, intense lime acidity and a long cream, flan undertone. Rich wine. Drink now.
96 pts Tim Atkin MW Top 100 Argentine Wines 2017
Very few Argentinean winemakers are capable of making Chardonnays like this, but Pepe Galante is one of them. Using purchased grapes from Paraje Altamira, it’s a focused, aromatic, chalky delight that wouldn’t look out of place in a line up of Premier Cru Burgundies. Leesy, subtle and very long.
