Peregrine Estate bottled its first vintage in 1998 and is known throughout New Zealand and the world as a Pinot Noir specialist. Located in Central Otago, on the South Island of New Zealand, Peregrine is all about maintaining quality and high standards. The winery building is an architectural masterpiece, built into the hillside in the shape of a bird’s wing, Peregrine is also actively involved in the conservation of New Zealand’s native birds, the Saddleback and the Mohua.
Peregrine sources grapes from eleven vineyards in the Central Otago area that are owned or managed by the winery. This gives them control over the fruit and also adds complexity and nuance to the finished product. Owned by Lindsay McLachlan and Greg Hay, Peregrine produces consistently one of the better pinots from New Zealand, and in addition makes a Riesling, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc.
