Mulderbosch 'Steen Op Hout' Chenin Blanc 2017

Mulderbosch 'Steen Op Hout' Chenin Blanc 2017 4 Stars 2019 Platter’s South African Wine Guide

Tasting Notes

Notes of white peach and baked apple have a citric, lemon cut have that gives the palate freshness and vibrancy. The texturally rich mid palate has lovely fruit purity that is underscored with a backbone of acidity that gives this drive leading to a juicy, dry finish. This is showing beautifully and should drink impressively over the next couple of years.

Food Accompaniments

roast chicken, pasta salad in a light white cream sauce, shell fish, seafood

Awards, Reviews and other Notes

4 Stars 2019 Platter’s South African Wine Guide
More impressive 17 (87 pts) from widely sourced older (20-30+ years) vines. Smooth, clean & lemony, with ripe baked-apple notes. More new oak than 16 (83 pts) (28% more new) but in sync with concentrated fruit.

Winemaker Notes

Sourced from mature vines grown predominantly in Stellenbosch, with one component being grown in Darling. This is a great example of richly flavoured Chenin Blanc from an excellent vintage. It has wonderful ripeness yet retains freshness and vibrancy from the first nose right through to the lasting finish. Ripe tropical aromas of mango, pineapple and papaya are lifted by a crisp, refreshing apple note. The palate is defined by a delicious fine mineral texture leading onto a succulent mid-palate. The final impression is one of a full flavoured, yet precisely poised Chenin Blanc.
