Moorooduc estate is situated on the Mornington Peninsula close to Melbourne. The Mornington Peninsula is a weekend getaway for many city people, and the peninsula is crossed with wine and horse farms. Every part of the peninsula is influenced by the ocean, and it is common for sea breezes to be blowing from some direction. The landscape has some gently rolling hills but nothing too high, and lots of sandy soils with some clay underneath. The climate makes this small area suitable for growing certain varieties, most notably Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Moorooduc was started by Richard and Jill McIntyre in 1982 and remains a boutique family run winery. The focus always has been on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Grapes come from their original home block and also from vineyards very close to the winery that allow them to control the viticulture.
