Moorooduc Estate

Moorooduc Estate Chardonnay 2012

Moorooduc Estate Chardonnay 2012 93 pts Wine Advocate

Tasting Notes

May 2018 - The 2012 Moorooduc Chardonnay is just now starting to open up with a good number of years in front of it, which is quite reflective of its cool climate origin. The nose offers aromas of citrus and peach stone fruit along with some hazel nut and light vanillin spice adding intrigue to the wine’s aromatics. Medium bodied this is quite elegant and refined. Lightly creamy in texture, this has good vibrancy and freshness, with nice supporting acidity driving the citrus and light peach/stone fruit flavors to a lengthy finish. This is now in its sweet spot and should continue to drink well over the next 3 plus years.

Food Accompaniments

Shell fish, salmon, halibut, chicken, pasta in a light cream sauce

Awards, Reviews and other Notes

90 pts Vinous/Josh Raynolds March 2016
Light yellow-gold. Powerful poached pear, yellow apple and tangerine aromas are complicated by suggestions of fennel, buttered toast and honey. Rich but surprisingly lively on the palate, offering ripe orchard fruit and candied lemon flavors underscored by a mineral quality. Decidedly brawny but not lacking in finesse and energy. Clings very nicely on the finish, leaving bitter citrus pith and anise notes behind.

The 2012 Chardonnay has a youthful nose of white peaches, grapefruit and tangerine peel with hints of toast and struck match. Medium-bodied with a lovely silkiness to texture, has oodles of citrus, stone fruit and savory flavor layers and a long finish.

Winemaker Notes

2012 delivered a fine complex chardonnay that shows great aging potential resulting in a deliciously mature wine, pale gold in colour with aromas of citrus fruit, lemon blossom, honey and hazelnut. The palate reflects the aromatics with good intensity, texture and length with plenty of acid to provide balance.
