Matetic 'Corralillo' Pinot Noir 2014

Matetic 'Corralillo' Pinot Noir 2014

Tasting Notes

April 2017 - The 2014 Coralillo Pinot Noir’s aromatics combine savory notes of underbrush, herbs, truffle and a suggestion of smokiness with fruit tones of black cherry and dark plum. Medium fuller bodied, finer grained tannins leave a powdery impression on the finish, while the mid palate has a nice juicy quality with vibrant dark berry fruit flavors that are in balance with the wine’s savory cast. This is just now opening up and should show well over the next couple of years.

Food Accompaniments

Duck, venison, mushroom dishes, pork

Winemaker Notes

Pinot Noir grapes are sourced from our own biodynamically grown vineyards from El Rosario Valley. Located on slopes with excellent sun exposure, the predominant soils are of granitic origin in various stages of decomposition with quartz rocks, low fertility and good drainage. 15% of the grapes come from the Valle Hermoso area, 6 miles (10 kilometers) from the sea. The predominant climate – marked by maritime influence – gives unique typicity and variety expression. Both Pinot Noir clones, 777 and 115, are single cane-pruned, to encourage a balanced canopy growth, ensuring proper maturity and varietal character.
Corralillo Pinot Noir is ruby red, with violet inflections. On the nose, it imparts aromas of cherries, blueberries and spices, which are very characteristic to this variety. The palate is elegant and fresh, with soft tannins and a juicy, long and persistent finish.
