Lynx Shiraz 2016

Lynx Shiraz 2016

Tasting Notes

July 2018 - This delicious Shiraz comes from estate vineyards in Franschhoek. The nose is very expressive of the varietal and delivers classic spice and herbs, pepper, clove, dried brush and floral characters all combine into layered and complex aromatics. The mouth is medium bodied with bright red fruits and some vanilla and smoke characters. This has some of the Rhone Valley Syrah characteristics and some of the Barossa Shiraz characteristics. The dark purple color gives an indication of the wine’s youthfulness and it should drink well over the next 2 – 3 years.

Food Accompaniments

Leg of lamp with garlic and rosemarry

Awards, Reviews and other Notes

90 pts Vinous/Neil Martin Aug 2018
Matured in 30% new oak for 12 months, the 2016 Shiraz has a neat and tidy, rather conservative bouquet of blackberry and cedar notes, lacking a little excitement but nevertheless "correct." The palate is smooth on the entry and the oak is neatly integrated. Blackberry, raspberry, white pepper and graphite notes appear toward the finish. Not bad at all.

Winemaker Notes

Arguably our flagship, rich, meaty, layered with ripe fruit, clove spice and vanilla. Lynx Shiraz Accolades includes Top 10 in Shiraz challenge, Silver at Old Mutual Trophy Wine show, and Gold at Michelangelo wine Awards.
