Kangarilla Road Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Kangarilla Road Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 shows that the Vale can make some pretty impressive Cabernet

Tasting Notes

Classic varietal blackcurrant fruit is nuanced with a light touch of menthol and herbs aromatically. Medium fuller bodied, the blackcurrant fruit dominates the palate and is quite generous with a light herbal tone chiming in, while the tannins are ripe and polished bringing this to a nice, lingering conclusion. This is drinking spot on as we speak and should show well over the next 4-5 years. Nice value…

Awards, Reviews and other Notes

92 pts James Halliday
McLaren Vale has long shown its affinity with cabernet, coming up with varietally expressive wines more easily than the Barossa or Clare Valleys (beware of generalisations); this is a good example with blackcurrant fruit and a gently earthy/herbal twist on the finish linked to the varietal tannin profile. It is from nine vineyards, matured in 50/50% French and American oak (25% new, the remainder used hogsheads).

Winemaker Notes

Blackcurrant/cassis is dominant on the palate with gentle menthol notes and hints of sweet cooked beetroot. Sweet soft tannins marry well with the fruit and deliver a bright lively finish.
