Garzon Tannat Reserve 2016 - last bt in stock

Garzon Tannat Reserve 2016 terrific follow up to the 2015 Wine Spectator Top 100

Tasting Notes

A visually dense, light capturing dark purple color leads to a nose that offers up a combo of blue and black fruits that are nuanced with some wood spice and cocoa powder aromatically. Medium fuller to fuller bodied, for a Tannat out of Uruguay this has more refinement than many, less rustic, with dense dark fruit flavors to the fore and slow building tannins that show their presence without being out of balance with the fruit. Almost juicy in the mid palate, the acidity plays a nice counter to the riper fruit flavors and tannins, while the cocoa, dark chocolate, mocha notes push up through on the finish adding an interesting nuance to the whole package. This begs for grilled meats with some fat content, a perfect match.

Awards, Reviews and other Notes

92 pts James Suckling April 2018
Iodine, ink, tar, crushed stones and dark plum essence. This has all the hallmarks of a fruity tannat, but it's in no way too much. It combines a lovely firm tannin backbone with tangy acidity, which carries all the way to the savory finish. Drink now.
90 pts Wine Enthusiast June 2018
A dark purple color and lush blackberry, cassis and woodspice aromas open this full-bodied Tannat. Toasty oak graces its core blackberry flavors, creating coffee and chocolate notes. On the finish, it's peppery, full and textured. Drink through 2020.

Winemaker Notes

A juicy, full-bodied wine. Rich purple in colour with very fresh aromas reminiscent of red and black fruits such as plums and raspberries along with a delicate spicy nose. In the mouth, it is presented with a strong personality. Its mature tannins and minerality transform it into a wine with great soil identity.
