Aussie winemaking legend Trevor Mast worked at Mount Langi Ghiran Vineyards and had a very successful career producing premium wines with a focus on cool climate Shiraz from the Grampians region of Victoria. Early on in his career in the early 1970s he studied winemaking in Germany, then gained experience in many countries before settling in the Grampians. While working at Bests Great Western he became intrigued with the wines of Mount Langi Ghiran, and went on to work there and eventually in 1987 he went all in and bought the farm. In 2002 Trevor sold Mount Langi Ghiran to the Rathbone Group which allowed him to focus on his Four Sisters project which he started in the mid-1990s.
Four Sisters is named after his four beautiful daughters and the goal was to create a range of wines which would appeal to the younger generation of wine drinkers. The focus is on value and quality wines from Victoria that are made to be enjoyed. Not too serious, they are there to help create memories and have fun, rather than being the center piece of any occasion. The eye catching label was designed by eldest daughter Daliah. The brand has grown into an iconic brand in Australia and is becoming increasingly well known internationally.
Sadly in 2012 Trevor Mast passed away before his time after suffering from early-onset Alzheimer’s and then succumbing to pneumonia. He was considered a pioneer in Victorian winemaking circles and was known as a man of few words who was deeply passionate about his chosen profession and his family. The Four Sisters brand will continue and hopefully go from strength to strength.
