Ernie Els

Ernie Els Big Easy Red Blend 2016

Ernie Els Big Easy Red Blend 2016

Tasting Notes

Feb 2018 - The 2016 Ernie Els Big Easy Red is a blend dominated by Shiraz (60%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (20%), filled in with Cinsaut, Grenache, Viognier and Mourvedre, respectively, where the Mediterranean meets Bordeaux. This has a spicy, perfumed top note, with some white pepper and anise nuances mingling with red berry and cherry fruit notes aromatically. Medium fuller bodied, flavors of cherry and red berry compote are touched with some spice that adds savory characters, while an engaging textural suppleness with finer tuned tannins leads to a classically dry finish. This is open knit and ready to drink and should continue to show well over the next couple of years.

Food Accompaniments

Direct, with a friendly blast of cherry compote and red licorice notes backed by a lightly toasted anise accent. Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, Grenache, Viognier and Mourvèdre. Drink now.

Winemaker Notes

The Big Easy Red Blend is a melange of ripe Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon and layered with waves of Grenache, Cinsaut, Mourvedre and a touch of Viognier. Quite perfumed and fittingly complex, the palate is lined with chocolate, spice and confectionary cherries. A peppery nuance adds further character, all framed by a fine structure and juicy core. Ready to drink, its long chalky finish will assist its 5 years ageing potential.
