Eikendal Pinotage 2016 - 5 Bottles Left

Eikendal Pinotage 2016 93 pts Tim Atkin MW 2017

Tasting Notes

Oct 2018 - Eikendal’s Pinotage is made in a more elegant, feminine style, playing towards its Pinot Noir lineage. The 2016 Eikendal Pinotage has an aromatic profile of plum, cherry and wild berry notes with little oak interplay to get in the way of the wine’s fruit purity. The palate is medium to medium fuller bodied with lovely sweet red berry fruit flavors that have nice vibrancy and freshness to them. The tannin structure is subdued and perfectly in balance with the fruit, resulting in a supple textured mouth feel and a lingering finish with nice finesse. Drinking well as we speak this should continue to drink impressively over the next 2-3 years.

Awards, Reviews and other Notes

93 pts Tim Atkin MW 2017
Eikendal’s Pinotage comes from a single, 21-year-old block that’s dry farmed. Deeply coloured, as the Eikendal wines tend to be, it’s juicy, smoky and brambly, with what Nico Grobler calls “more of a Cinsaut feel”. Sappy, floral and appealing. 2018-23
4 ½ Stars 2018 Platter’s South African Wine Guide
Pinotage perfume is what the winemaker is after (& gets) in floral 16, aged in older barrels, seducing with red cherry & plum fruit as well as hits of chocolate, banana & spice, fresh, with soft, fine tannins.

Winemaker Notes

The Pinotage 2016 is seductive and elegant, with great finesse. The nose is full of berry, plum, cherry and chocolate flavours. The palate shows sophisticated oak integration with a supple and lingering finish. A wine made with passion and creativity and the immense attention to detail
