Diemersfontein Shiraz 2017

Diemersfontein Shiraz 2017 90 pts Tim Atkin

Tasting Notes

Jan 2019 - The 2017 Diemersfontein Shiraz is made in a modern style with vibrant flavors and good fruit weight without being over the top. The nose has good intensity and freshness, with notes of dark cherries and plums, overlaid with sweet spice and a floral touch which helps give lift and adds another dimension to the wine’s aromatics. Medium fuller bodied, the nose gives the impression that the wine will be bigger in body, but here there is some sleekness to the texture with good acidity adding vibrancy to the concentrated fruit flavors of dark cherry with a kiss of spice running through. The tannins are evident, but not assertive, giving a tug of firmness to the dry finish on the back end. If you drink right away give this some aeration, otherwise lay it down for 6 plus months and enjoy over the next 2-3 years after that.

Food Accompaniments

Assorted red meats, barbecue pork, smoked Gouda cheese, Camembert cheese

Awards, Reviews and other Notes

90 pts Tim Atkin MW 2018
Smooth, aromatic and intense, the Diemersfontein Shiraz offers a lot of wine for the money. Floral, supple and sweetly oaked, it has bramble and blueberry fruit and appealing texture and weight. 2019-2024.

4 Stars 2019 Platter’s South African Wine Guide
Solid, meaty 17 has plum pudding fruit with fragrant cinnamon spicing, plenty of body & presence. Slightly chewy tannins should settle with time.

Winemaker Notes

A fusion of sour cherries, vanilla, spice and violets entice the senses. These intense flavours follow through to the palate, resulting in a full-bodied and lingering finish
