Polished, with an alluring mocha note weaving around the core of steeped cherry, plum and blackberry fruit. Coffee and tobacco details underscore the finish, which is fleshy and suave in feel. Drink now through 2020. 800 cases made.

(aged in half new and half second-fill French barrels for 12 months, with the Malbec raised in American oak): Bright medium ruby. Crushed blueberry and blackberry aromas show an element of rocky minerality that I did not find in the 2013 Z bottling. Densely packed, tight and brooding; more savory than sweet, with strong licorice and spicy oak notes apparent in the early going. A very powerful, firmly tannic Left Bank style with the structure for extended aging. The long finish features spicy high tones.

Dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, as it normally is, this red blend uses all five of the Bordeaux grapes, as its name suggests, and comes from west-facing slopes at De Toren. Ripe, textured and ambitious, it’s very much a late picked style, with sweet, figgy flavours, some wild herb aromas and stylish oak. 2019-23
