From our winery nestled on the sunny, limestone-rich slopes of our Omihi Hills Vineyard in Waipara, New Zealand,
Daniel Schuster Wines produce finely crafted, classically structured Pinot noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon blanc.
These elegant and characterful wines proudly display the terroir from which they originate and are sought after by wine
enthusiasts both in New Zealand and overseas.
Established in 1986, Daniel Schuster Wines is a small, quality-focused producer of classically structured wines with individual character that reflects the unique growing conditions of our Estate vineyards.
The winery is located in the fast emerging wine producing district of Waipara in North Canterbury and our wines are produced entirely from grapes grown on our two estate managed vineyards; Omihi Hills Vineyard in Waipara and Petrie Vineyard in Rakaia, Mid Canterbury.
The unique environments of our Estate vineyards are ideally suited for the production of premium quality wine from Pinot noir and Chardonnay grapes. Wines under the regional "Canterbury" label are made in a supple style for earlier drinking while the "Selection" wines are made in only the best vintages to genuinely reflect our special terroir and are structured to reward longer term cellaring.
In addition to our own Estate wines, a premium Sauvignon blanc is made each year in a joint venture with Marchese L. Antinori of Tuscany.
Omihi Hills Vineyard in Waipara was developed in limestone rich soils on north facing slopes, best suited to the Pinot noir grape. The hand pruned and harvested 6 ha vineyard is closely planted in small vines, grown without irrigation and utilising integrated farming practices.
The 12 ha Petrie Estate Vineyard is planted to Chardonnay and Pinot noir grapes on well drained soils in a distinctively cool climate, combining cool nights and warm nor'west days to produce fine quality fruit.
