93 pts Tim Atkin MW 2016
No rewards for guessing that this is a blend of three varieties - mostly Merlot with Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc. The reduction in new oak had benefitted the wine, producing an elegant, perfumed red with filigree tannins and savoury, green-edged fruit. Drink: 2016-23
90 pts Vinous May 2017
(14.5% alcohol): Dark red. Aromas and flavors of plum, redcurrant, tobacco and mellow oak. Plush and seamless on the palate, offering complicating notes of milk chocolate, earth and hints of dusty herbs. Nicely concentrated, velvety wine with dusty, firm tannins to support some bottle development. I wanted some more high notes, though: I don't find the floral Cabernet Franc character of the 2012 version.

Winemaker Notes

Youthful in color with a dark, cardinal core unwinding into a bright and lively ruby rim. The 2013 Constantia Glen Three bids an utterly complex collection of savoury flavors with some dark fruit and truffle that consume the senses at first glance. This focused vintage promises old world authenticity with its floral herb aromas of rosemary and fynbos along with an intriguing lace of cassis, currant and the most elegant of spices. The savory flavors illustrated on the nose follow flawlessly onto that first sip, where elegant, velvety tannins grip the palate in a vibrant intensity of flavour. This incredible richness and concentration of fine grain tannin is further echoed by an earthy minerality and the wine’s fresh, natural acidity that brings about a long, well-defined finish. This full bodied blend has great potential to well withstand the test of time and remain true to its terroir for at least another decade if stored under correct cellar conditions.

Blend: 59% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 16% Cabernet Franc.
