Cederberg Merlot Shiraz 2015 from high altitude vineyards |
Tasting
Notes |
Apr 2018 - The nose of the 2015 Cederberg
Merlot Shiraz offers up engaging plum and red currant fruit that displays nice lift and freshness with a light spice and smoky component aromatically. Medium fuller bodied
this is supple in texture with good
depth to the dark plum flavors that
are backed by finer grained, almost powdery tannins. This has
engaging fruit that is fresh and layered, showcasing good palate
presence and an impressive juicy tart and sweet interplay. This is drinking nicely and should show well over the next couple of years. |

89 pts Vinous/Stephen Tanzer May 2017
(14.5% alcohol): Cassis, wild herbs, pepper and spices on the nose. At once plush and alive in the mouth, conveying a fine-grained texture and lovely juicy intensity to its flavors of cassis, plum and spices. Very rich, concentrated and sweet for this bottling, and firmly tannic and persistent on the finish. Clearly riper and denser than the 2014 version, showing a lovely ripe, pliant middle and the superiority of the 2015 vintage. Already quite sexy. |
Winemaker Notes |
A fantastic blend of 69% merlot and 31% shiraz. Sweet plums and
blackcurrants from the merlot and cherries and spice from the shiraz. A wine
that is very accessible and smooth with fruity flavours lingering on the palate.
This red blend is a must with every braai, but also suited to rich game dishes. |
