Cederberg Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Cederberg Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 92 pts Tim Atkin MW

Tasting Notes

Oct 2018 - The nature of the high elevation vineyards allows a longer ripening period which gives rise to fully developed fruit. A combo of red and darker red fruit, cassis and plum along with a slight suggestion of mint, a hint of tobacco leaf and graphite define the 2016 Cederberg Cabernet Sauvignon’s aromatics. Medium fuller bodied, an undercurrent of acidity gives this a juicy quality and freshness while riper tannins give enough structure to the core of red and darker red fruit flavors to say you can lay it down for a few years or enjoy now. Nice mid palate sweetness is countered with a touch of mineral and graphite on the finish.

Awards, Reviews and other Notes

92 pts Tim Atkin MW 2018
Not far behind the Five Generations in terms of quality in 2016, this late picked varietal Cabernet is dense, compact and very perfumed, all damson and cassis fruit, well integrated oak and filigree tannins. Ripe, but not over-ripe. 2019-24

Winemaker Notes

High altitude cabernet vineyards that have a longer ripening period give rise to this phenomenal wine. Loads of blackcurrants with cedar wood undertones on the nose with a hint of smokiness and tobacco leaf, creating a complex wine. Good integration of oak with a velvety finish on the palate. A prime example of a well-crafted South African Cabernet Sauvignon
