Braai Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Braai Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 - made specifically for a Braai - 88 pts Wine Spectator

Tasting Notes

Brilliant marketing that isn’t too cheeky, this plays a South African slant with a wine specifically made for outdoor grilling and barbequing. Notes of dark berry fruit have some smoky earthiness on the nose. Medium fuller bodied, there’s a smoky element to the cassis fruit flavors that are backed with some firm but nicely integrated tannins, which will play perfectly against anything that has been grilled and has some fat content. This definitely screams out for something that has the smoky notes one gets from outdoor grilling making it a perfect wine for a Braai.

Awards, Reviews and other Notes

Offers a liberal dose of toasted vanilla, with a light dill echo along the edges and a core of bright cassis and cherry pie flavors. A bit obvious in style. Drink now through 2019.

Winemaker Notes

The earliest archaeological evidence of barbecue (Braai) is found in South Africa. On September 24th of each year the country celebrates Heritage Day, which in 2007 was renamed Braai4Heritage as a testament to its cultural importance in South Africa. The essence of braai is captured in this bold Cabernet, which displays aromas and flavors of dark berries, earth and smoke—perfect for socializing and the ideal complement to a wide range of BBQ-friendly flavors.
