Bleasdale

Tasting Notes

An elegant wine with aromas of mixed berries, dark chocolate and violets. The palate is smooth with blackcurrant and spicy oak. Flavors and finishes with fine chalky tannins.

Awards, Reviews and other Notes

92 pts James Halliday
Destemmed and crushed to open fermenters, spending 11-15 days on skins, matured for 12 months in new (15%) and used French oak. Bright crimson-purple; you really have to wait until the aftertaste to understand and appreciate this wine: it's in that languorous, medium-bodied Langhorne Creek style, the tannins soft, the fruit fully ripe at 14%, the aftertaste revealing some black olive nuances, a faint edge to the tannins, and a whisk of oak that all add to the package.

90 pts Vinous
Saturated ruby. Aromas of fresh cherry, blueberry and cigar box are lifted by a spicy quality that gains power with aeration. Smooth, focused and appealingly sweet, offering pliant black and blue fruit and floral flavors and a hint of vanilla. Clings impressively on the finish, which features repeating blue fruit, a touch of succulent herbs and smooth, well-integrated tannins. -- Josh Raynolds

Winemaker Notes

The deep alluvial floodplains of Langhorne Creek are home to some of Australia’s best soils in which to grow premium grapes. Frank Potts realized this when he established Bleasdale in 1850. The Mulberry Tree vineyard, named after the ancient tree growing in the middle of the block consistently.
Crushed and de-stemmed, extended post ferment maceration with clay soils, shorter ferments with loams, pressed to oak for maturation, prior to egg fining of specific parcels, racking to blend and filtration prior to bottling.
