Bayten Chardonnay 2016

Bayten Chardonnay 2016 90 pts Wine Spectator

Tasting Notes

April 2018 - The 2016 Bayten Chardonnay was given 100% barrel fermentation for 10 months in an assortment of French oak barriques, of which only 10% was new oak, with 2nd, 3rd and 4th year old barrels filling things out. The end result is a wine that is richly fruited, playing power against elegance with good underpinning acidity. Notes of grilled hazelnut and hint of butterscotch and oak spice give way to citrus marmalade and yellow apple aromatically. The palate has a creamy texture with apple, citrus and melon flavors that are nuanced by some nuttiness and a mineral component that adds to the wine’s intrigue. This is drinking beautifully as we speak and should hold up nicely over the next couple of years.

Awards, Reviews and other Notes

A singed hazelnut note weaves around a core of creamed yellow apple and melon flavors and then extends through the finish, giving this a suave, flattering feel. Why people like Chardonnay.

Winemaker Notes

This full bodied, rich Chardonnay offers powerful citrus, giving it great elegance, with flintstone on the nose, mineral undertones and good balance giving the wine a wonderful lingering finish.
