Bodega Atamisque

Atamisque Catalpa 'Old Vines' Malbec 2016

Atamisque Catalpa 'Old Vines' Malbec 2016 from 70 year old vines - 90 pts wine Advocate

Tasting Notes

May 2018 - This is the intro wine from Bodega Atamisque and here the oak is downplayed in regards to its big brother. Sourced from vines that are 70 years in age, this is lovely stuff and will make those who think Malbec can be too one dimensional take a second look. The color is a deep, dark purple leading into a nose that has a slight smoky edge to the purple and dark red fruit tones with a floral, violet lift as well. Youthful vibrancy and freshness lead into the palate on its medium fuller fame with crunchy, juicy red and blackberry fruits carried by an underlying vein of acidity. The tannins are perfectly integrated even at its young age, which says although its showing well right out the gate, the structure is there to show well for 3-4 more years. This is something that will keep you coming back for another glass.

The 2016 Catalpa Malbec is juicy, fresh, ripe, floral and pleasant, produced in an easy-to-understand way, with moderate alcohol and good freshness. The palate is fruit-driven and round, with juicy fruit and clean flavors.
