Apaltagua is the fruition of a dream of American businessman, Edward Tutunjian, to become involved in the Chilean wine industry. In 1995 Edward visited Chile for the first time and almost two decades later Apaltagua winery has become known throughout Chile and the world as a producer of quality wines. While on vacation in 1995, Edward was moved by the country and its wines and had the urge to invest there, acquiring his first vineyard in the Curico Valley in that year. Later, in an effort to increase vineyard holdings and also increase the grapes planted, more vineyards were acquired in different locations and eventually Apaltagua winery was purchased and the name stuck. The Apaltagua property is located in the Apalta Valley of Colchagua, hence the name.
Today Apaltagua has vineyards in five of Chile’s major wine producing regions, giving it diversity and the ability to source fruit from a multitude of microclimates. A source of high end Chilean wines that are focused on the terroir Apaltagua winery treats the land and their workers with respect and integrity.
