The 2004 Syrah “Carabantes” is an identical blend. Stylistically similar, it is slightly more perfumed and richer than the 2003 and would benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring.
The 2003 Syrah “Carabantes” (with 15% Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend) is a serious effort that was bottled unfiltered. Opaque purple-colored, the wine delivers classic Syrah notes of bacon, game, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur. On the palate the wine is jam-packed with spicy, rich blue fruits and ripe tannins. There is flavor to burn and terrific length. This hedonistic Syrah should provide pleasure for 10-12 years.
