Reviews and other Notes |
88 pts Robert Parker, Jr.'s The Wine Advocate #168 A primarily Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot along with 20% Shiraz, the 2005 Bells & Whistles is a deep ruby/plum-colored, straightforward effort displaying notions of mint, damp earth, black currants, cherries, and spice. It is well-made, ripe, heady, and best drunk over the next 3-4 years.
87 pts Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 2007 - Ruby-red. Easygoing dark berry and cracked pepper aromas are clear and fresh. Soft and fleshy, with sweet blackberry and cherry preserve flavors, silky tannins and a gentle finish. This is ready to drink. |
Winemaker Notes |
The Bells and Whistles is a blend made from 65% Cab/Sav, 20% Shiraz, 11% Cab Franc and 4% Merlot grapes grown at St Mary’s vineyards. The palate is balanced with a rich smooth persistence.
The batches of grapes used to make this were picked from the different blocks at St Marys as the baume reached 13.2
Grapes were fermented in the small separate batches as they were picked from the vineyard. The wine was extracted from the skins using a basket press. Maturation – 12 months in climate controlled storage. |
