May 2012
The 2006 Saxenburg PC Shiraz was just recently recognized as one of the Top 100 wines from South Africa for 2011, where its accolades can be summed up in three words, warm, spicy and elegant. The nose is laced with spice, vanilla, a light touch of pepper, earth and some meaty, gamey notes flowing thru to the dark fruit tones aromatically. The palate is seamless on its medium fuller frame with beautifully integrated tannins; the fruit is dark with some gamey, spiciness adding nuance and complexity. This has old world leanings with its savory cast, but the fruit weight and vibrancy are new world in style. This is showing extremely well as we speak and should drink beautifully over the next 3-4 years.
