Rust en Vrede Merlot 2010 serious wine for the money

The one wine we seem to gravitate to most from this red wine specialist is their Merlot. The last half decade it has been the estate’s most interesting wine. Value is a big factor and this seems to over deliver consistently and the just released 2010 is another terrific bottle of wine. Plum and mulberry fruit abound, underscored with a nice earth and mineral backbone with oak just barely noticeable. The fruit has nice purity with mid palate sweetness countered by a dry, slightly mineral tinged finish. Say what you may about Merlot, but this is pretty hard not to like and at a great price to boot.

This features a winey core of plum and black currant fruit, nicely laced with toasty vanilla and tobacco notes. Drink now through 2013.
