Raats Cabernet Franc 2008 beautiful varietal expression
Bruwer Raats only works with two varietals, a Chenin Blanc for his white and Cabernet Franc for his red, and both are exceptional undertakings in their own right. His Cabernet Franc is considered by insiders to be one of the finest in the world, which has been proven out when tried against some big name, well heeled Bordeaux labels in comparable tastings. The just released 2008 is another stellar effort and speaks highly of its pedigree and the man behind it. Offering a up a core of spicy, leafy tobacco-laced black berry and darker cherry fruit, the tannins are finely tuned and play nicely off the wines mineral tinged finish. Starting to just open up this masterpiece should drink beautifully over the next 3-4 years.

This textbook, rock-solid version shows a fresh tobacco leaf edge guiding its core of black cherry, plum and blackberry fruit. Mineral and tobacco notes take over on the pure, racy finish.
