In a country that is dominated by large scale operations,
Matetic is quite unique in that it’s a family owned,
biodynamic winery producing 15,000 cases per year.
Located in the Rosario Valley, a smaller enclave within
the San Antonio Valley, around 60 miles
southwest of Santiago and only 10
miles from the Pacific Ocean, Matetic
has found one of the perfect climates
for producing world class, cool climate
wines. Established in 1999, the Matetic
family’s goal was to find balance and
harmony between the winery’s organic
agricultural practices and its state of the
art winemaking facility. The EQ on the
wineries label stands for equilibrio, the
Spanish word for balance, which signifies
the production of wines that reflect
the balance between the vineyards, the
winemaking practices and the natural
environment.
The 2009 Matetic Sauvignon Blanc displays it cool climate origins
to perfection without any excessive green or herbal notes to the
fruit. The nose offers up notes of grapefruit and lemon. The palate
has the edgy vibrancy one expects from a well made Sauvignon
Blanc with green apple, citrus and some melon richness that is cut
with a mineral component on the dryer finish. Showing well as we
speak this should be enjoyed over the next 12 months.
