In spite of its size and the incredible number of cases it produces across a variety of price points and flavor spectrums, Concha y Toro seems to really have the formula for making outstanding wines figured out. Their Marques de Casa Concha range has really been on a roll the last few years, offering wines with a distinctive sense of place. The latest 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon is a real beauty, it’s got a touch of the Maipo menthol character along with notes of loam and a fine note of tobacco leaf adding a complimentary nuance to the dark currant fruit. This offers a nice core of sweet fruit with a tannin backbone to age nicely over the next 5-6 years

The initial aromas of this cabernet recall cassis and chocolate, with hints of menthol placing it in Alto Maipo. The tannins are still young, with plenty of juicy, ripe red fruit to balance them. The finish on this wine is long and complex, for short-term aging.. 91 pts Wine Spectator 5/15/08 Smart Buys Lush but structured, delivering layers of black currant, tobacco, loam and dark licorice pushed by ripe, solid structure, with a long, dark finish. Always rock-solid. Drink now through 2011.
