Tasting Notes

Winemaker's Tasting Notes: A gold green in colour, this wine provides a multi-layered complexity both on the nose and palate. The nose combines the perfumed richness with ripe tropical fruit and integrated vanillan oak. The palate is soft, rich, and full showing structure and a lingering acid finish. As the wine ages the palate will increase in strength and weight and the wine will improve over the next five years. The rich soft fruit flavours also allow for early consumption. This wine should cellar well for 5 years.

Winemaker Notes

Viticultural practices: 40 year old dryland planted vines grown on red basalt volcanic soil using vsp management. Low vigour with high sun exposure.
Yields per acre: 0.8 tonnes/acre
Number of cases per item produced: 2,000
Appellation: Broke Fordwich
Varietal composition: 100 % Chardonnay
Wood treatment: 50% new French oak and 50% one and two year old French oak
Length of barrel maturation: 7 months

This fruit is concentrated and ripe and provides much up front fruit. Natural yeast, high solids in ferment and barrel fermentation help to increase the complexity of the wine providing for richness without fatness and structure and elegance.
