The 2005 Mairena Bonarda has a nice savoriness to it with good fruit backing it up. This has a touch of spice box, some tar and licorice along with some shades of leather, toast and dark cherry and black fruits on the nose. The palate gives some sweet dark red to darker fruit impressions; the tannins are sleek and round with a slight edgy, savory note adding a slight herbal note on the finish. There is good depth to the fruit, even with 5 years of age this has a vibrant fruit expression and richness with a nice tapered lengthy finish. In a perfect place as we speak, this should drink nicely over the next couple of years.
