Forty Two Degrees South Pinot Noir 2008 Tasmania Pinot - great value - this delivers

We really fell in love with this particular label over the last couple of years of exposure to it. The just released 2008 version is a real cracker. Tasmania is now proving that it can make some pretty formidable Pinot Noir and each year, even with vintage variations, the quality keeps getting better and better. This has lovely freshness and purity to the fruit, with a light spice and floral lift that accentuates the red fruit base, reminding of raspberry and red currant. Medium bodied the texture has a sleek, silkiness and finer grained, almost powdery tannins giving enough grip to focus the fruit. Maybe not the most complex wine out there, but in terms of pure drinking pleasure and pricing this is pretty impressive.

Light and tangy, with a nice mix of red berry and spice flavors that keep singing on the bright finish. Drink now through 2014.
