In its native New Zealand this particular wine is spoken of in superlatives as being one of the most awarded dessert wines that that country has ever produced. With a few years of bottle age this is really offering up some interesting aromas and flavors. A deep golden color leads to a nose that showcases classic botrytis fruit, apricot, candied citrus, orange peel and spun sugar notes. The palate is lusciously rich, viscous and sweet with mouth coating flavors of honey nectar, orange peel and dried apricots carried on a stream of acidity that keeps the wine vibrant. The key is the wine’s acidity countering the 220 grams per liter of residual sugar which ensures that the finish is lingering and fresh.
