Vines for the Don Martino ‘Old Vine’ Semillon wine were planted in 1938. The 2009 Fincas Don Martino ‘Old Vine’ Semillon is 100% stainless steel fermented, seeing no wood and is a beautiful expression of the varietal. The nose offers up lifted and cleanly defined notes of lemon citrus, white orchard fruit and green fig with a slight honeyed undertone. The palate offers exceptional fruit purity, surprising weight, without heft, with an ever so slight creamy note to the texture reminding of fig and dry pear fruit with some lemony zestfulness giving drive and length. Refreshing clean, and possessing ample palate weight this screams for fish, seafood, shell fish and poultry dishes that are sautéed, grilled or matched with a light cream sauce.
