This is initially quite savory on the nose upon opening, with notes of black olive, fennel and a suggestion of lightly smoked herbs sitting over the darker current fruit tones, which gives the wine an intriguing and engaging aromatic profile. With a little aeration the savory, herbal notes mesh nicely and harmonize with the fruit tones, as the dark fruits on the nose become more pronounced. Medium fuller bodied this this offers up a core of vibrant and fresh dark and darker red fruit flavors that have held steady in spite of the wine's extra bottle age. The tannins have mellowed and there is a nice vein of acidity running through that gives this brightness and drive. As it airs out and opens up its gain supplesness and mid palate flesh with surprising length on the finish. For the money this is an exceptional value that should drink beautifully over the next couple of years. The six bottle deal makes this a screaming deal any way you look at it.
